Covering an area of 109.30 hectares, this site encompasses the largest peat bog on Kopaonik. Jankove Bare is situated in the Rečica Valley, between Jankov Breg (1531 m.a.s.l.), Hajdučki Laz, and Suvi Vrh (1686 m.a.s.l.), at approximately 1450 meters above sea level. Downstream near Hajdučki Laz, Rečica, after flowing in a straight line, makes a “bend,” turning westward and then northwestward, eventually joining the Samokovska River(Samokovska Reka) as its right tributary at the base of Kadijevac (1647 m.a.s.l.). The peat bog’s substrate consists of a peat layer formed by mosses from the genus Sphagnum, with deposits exceeding 3 meters in thickness. With the exception of the right side, the beginning of the Rečica Valley is covered with coniferous forest. The bog’s vegetation includes a distinctive community of spruce with Sphagnum and other peatland species (Piceo-Sphagnetum). Jankove Bare has been classified as part of Serbia’s hydrological heritage.
