This year, reforestation efforts continue under the collaboration of the Public Enterprise National Park Kopaonik and the Public Enterprise Ski Resorts of Serbia. The reforestation technique used in the national park is called “filling,” which involves planting seedlings only in areas where forests previously existed but were devastated by abiotic or biotic factors. To mitigate the harmful effects of construction and maintenance work on the ski slopes within the National Park Kopaonik, compensation measures have been agreed upon with Ski Resorts of Serbia. These measures involve establishing new spruce plantations in areas that experienced forest drying, including the forest management units “Gobeljska River(Gobeljska Reka),” “Samokovska River(Samokovska Reka),” and “Barska River(Barska Reka).” The reforestation is planned over the next three to five years, based on the Decision on Compensation Measures issued by the Ministry of Environmental Protection (No. 353-02-02097/2018-04) on June 24, 2019. Since 2019, in cooperation with Ski Resorts of Serbia, thirty-five thousand spruce seedlings have been planted. This year, the compensation measures and the regular annual reforestation of the Kopaonik National Park aim to plant an additional thirty thousand spruce seedlings.
