The area surrounding Markove Stene and the Samokovska Reka encompasses a diverse and interesting assemblage of spruce communities, characterized by moss, sorrel, and other vegetation, including wetlands located directly beside the Samokovska Reka. The route traverses the natural reserve of the Samokovska Reka, passing by granite cliffs and geomorphological monuments such as Suvi Jelak (1622 m above sea level) and Markove Stene (1721 m above sea level). The starting point for this tour is from the center of the settlement Kopaonik “Sunčani Vrhovi,” accessible via an uphill path alongside the parking area, followed by steps leading down a marked trail through a dense coniferous forest. A leisurely walk along the flat terrain leads to a cluster of uniquely shaped and positioned rocks, reaching heights of up to ten meters. The rocks are of granodiorite origin and exhibit a coarse-grained structure. Visitors can ascend to the summit via steps, where a panoramic view of the entire Ravni Kopaonik is offered. Surrounding the rock formation are resting spots equipped with benches and tables, allowing for enjoyment of the greenery and fresh air. The return from Markove Stene follows a marked trail heading south through the coniferous forest, passing by the children’s holiday resort “Kragujevac,” and ultimately arriving back at the parking area in front of the settlement center “Sunčani Vrhovi”.
