The project “Forests in Women’s Hands” (Fem4Forest) began in July 2020 and includes 14 partners from 10 countries (Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Romania, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and Ukraine). The project is funded under the INTERREG Danube Transnational Cooperation Program. The lead partner is the Forestry Institute of Slovenia, with Dr. Nike Krajnc serving as project leader. In Serbia, the project partner is the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Forestry, with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management – Directorate for Forests acting as the associated strategic partner. Within the Fem4Forest project, the various roles of women throughout the entire forest product supply chain will be highlighted. The project will explore opportunities for greater female participation in forest management, the labor market, and decision-making processes at different levels. The goal is to identify possibilities for a more active role for women through the exchange of ideas and best practices, carried out through a series of pilot projects in the Danube Region. The primary aim of the Fem4Forest project is to strengthen the forestry sector at local, regional, and inter-regional levels by increasing the involvement and competence of women. The project offers a new and innovative approach to education and mentoring, which will enable a more active role for women in the forestry sector.
