The word “BEAR” originates from Old Slavic, meaning “the one who knows where the honey is.” Bears inhabit various environments, and their diet depends largely on their habitat. Most bear species are omnivores, with 95% of their diet consisting of plant-based foods. They feed on berries, fruits, roots, grasses, young corn, and beech acorns. The remaining part of their diet includes invertebrates, fish, and carrion from larger animals. Occasionally, they will prey on larger mammals such as roe deer and stags. Bears tend to be reclusive and prefer to avoid contact with humans; however, female bears can become dangerous while raising their young.
